New Delhi : HL September 01, 2026
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has introduced ‘AyurVarta’, a new digital dialogue series designed to take credible Ayurvedic knowledge, scientific research and its relevance to contemporary healthcare to audiences in India and across the world.
The initiative has been launched ahead of Ayurveda Day, which will be observed on September 23. Through conversations with specialists, the series aims to create an informed discussion around Ayurveda, its research base, education, clinical applications, public health relevance and expanding international presence.
First Episode Focuses on September 23
The opening episode of AyurVarta features Professor (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, in conversation with Professor (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas, Dean, Ph.D., AIIA. The discussion examines the theme: “Why is Ayurveda Day celebrated on 23 September?”
The speakers discussed how Ayurveda Day was traditionally observed on Dhanvantari Jayanti, coinciding with Dhanteras, before the government introduced September 23 as a fixed annual date.
According to the discussion, adopting a fixed date is intended to bring greater uniformity to the annual observance and strengthen the national and international identity of Ayurveda Day.
The Idea of Balance Behind September 23
Professor Mahesh Vyas also discussed the significance attributed to September 23. The date falls around the autumnal equinox, a period associated with an approximately equal duration of day and night.
The discussion connected this natural equilibrium with the Ayurvedic concept of balance and harmony, which is central to the traditional understanding of health and well-being.
The association gives the annual observance a broader conceptual theme, linking Ayurveda’s emphasis on equilibrium with a date symbolically associated with balance in nature.
A Digital Platform for Ayurveda Dialogue
According to AIIA, AyurVarta is intended to be a continuing initiative rather than a one-time campaign. Future episodes are expected to bring together Ayurveda practitioners, doctors, researchers, scientists, academics and policy experts from India and other countries.
The discussions will cover subjects such as:
Scientific research and foundations of Ayurveda
Ayurveda education and opportunities for young people
Ayurveda and public health
Technology and innovation in traditional medicine
Ayurveda and contemporary medical sciences
Medicinal plants and natural resources
Preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyles
Ayurveda’s role in global health
International opportunities for Ayurveda
Evidence generation and evidence-based Ayurveda
Focus on Youth, Research and Global Outreach
The digital format is designed to make expert discussions accessible to a wider audience, including students, young people, physicians, researchers, academicians and members of the general public.
The initiative also reflects the growing effort to present Ayurveda through conversations that address scientific inquiry, healthcare needs and international engagement alongside its traditional knowledge base.
AIIA plans to distribute episodes through its official digital and social-media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, X and Instagram.
Why the Initiative Matters
AyurVarta comes at a time when traditional systems of medicine are increasingly being discussed in the context of preventive healthcare, research, lifestyle management and global health. By bringing experts from different fields into a common digital forum, the series seeks to encourage wider discussion about Ayurveda’s traditional principles as well as contemporary research and evidence.
The first episode’s focus on the fixed date of September 23 for Ayurveda Day also provides the foundation for the larger annual campaign and introduces the broader theme of balance, harmony and well-being associated with Ayurveda.
