Joining the list of leading government hospitals such as AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi Government’s Indira Gandhi Hospital (IGH), Dwarka has launched a dedicated Senior Citizens’ OPD (Geriatric Clinic) to provide faster, priority-based and dignified healthcare services for elderly patients.
The dedicated geriatric clinic was inaugurated by Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, who said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible and patient-friendly for senior citizens aged 60 years and above.
The newly established OPD offers streamlined registration, separate consultation facilities, priority access to diagnostic tests and quicker medical care across multiple specialties. With this initiative, Indira Gandhi Hospital joins a select group of Delhi government hospitals that have introduced dedicated outpatient services for elderly patients.
Dr. Singh was accompanied by Member of Parliament Kamaljeet Sehrawat, senior doctors and hospital officials during the inauguration. He later inspected the hospital’s Hydrotherapy Unit, Emergency Department, General Medicine Department and other clinical facilities, while interacting with patients, doctors and healthcare workers to review healthcare delivery.
The minister appreciated the hospital administration for introducing separate registration counters, earmarked OPDs, priority access to X-ray, physiotherapy and injection room services, along with improved patient assistance mechanisms aimed at reducing waiting time for elderly patients.
“Our senior citizens deserve healthcare with dignity, respect and priority. This dedicated OPD is a step towards ensuring seamless and compassionate medical services for every elderly patient,” Dr. Singh said.
He added that many senior citizens expressed satisfaction with the new arrangements, highlighting the convenience of dedicated services and faster treatment.
During the visit, Dr. Singh also praised the hospital’s voluntary blood donation programme, noting that the regular collection of blood units significantly strengthens emergency and critical care services.
The Delhi Government, he said, will continue to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand patient-centric initiatives across government hospitals, with special emphasis on improving medical services for senior citizens and other vulnerable groups.
