The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) has successfully concluded the three-day international seminar ‘Saushrutam 2026’, bringing together renowned surgeons, researchers and academicians from India and several other countries to discuss advancements in Ayurvedic surgery and interdisciplinary healthcare.
Organised from July 15 to 17, with a pre-conference workshop on July 14 to mark Sushruta Jayanti, the seminar served as a platform for scientific discussions, research exchange and collaboration between traditional Ayurvedic surgical practices and modern medical sciences.
The valedictory session was attended by NCISM Chairperson Vd. Maneesha Kothekar and South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri as chief guests, while Dr. Sushrut Kanaujia and Padma Shri Prof. Manoranjan Sahu were present as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Vd. Maneesha Kothekar said that such academic events play a vital role in strengthening Ayurvedic education and providing students with exposure to evolving scientific developments. She noted that these initiatives are helping highlight the role of Ayurvedic practitioners as skilled surgeons alongside their traditional identity as physicians.
AIIA Director Prof. (Vd.) P.K. Prajapati said the seminar was designed to promote evidence-based surgical research, encourage innovation and strengthen academic partnerships between Ayurveda and modern surgery. He added that the event reflects the institute’s commitment to advancing surgical education and global collaboration.
Organising Chairman Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Badwe said AIIA remains focused on improving standards in Ayurvedic surgery through research, training and international engagement.
During the closing ceremony, AIIA renewed its five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Delhi, reinforcing cooperation in research and innovation. The institute also released the third edition of its annual Hindi magazine Ayushvallari, a public awareness publication on eye health titled Neetra Rogya: Samanya Jankari aur Niwaran, and the official souvenir of Saushrutam 2026.
The All-India Institute of Ayurveda (New Delhi) extended its (MoU) with IIT Delhi for another five years. Prof. (Vd. ) P.K Prajapati, Director, AIIA and Prof. Ashwini Agrawal, Dean (Research and Development), IIT Delhi represented the institutes.
The seminar featured experts from Thailand, Israel, Austria, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, Greece and India, along with more than 30 leading Indian specialists from premier Ayurveda and medical institutions. Modern surgical experts from AIIMS, SGPGI Lucknow, Government Medical College Agartala and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital also participated, encouraging dialogue between traditional and contemporary surgical sciences.
According to AIIA, the seminar represents another milestone in promoting evidence-based Ayurveda and integrating traditional medical knowledge with modern scientific advancements to strengthen India’s holistic healthcare ecosystem.
