The Delhi High Court on Tuesday permitted scientist and social activist Sonam Wangchuk to be shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital, Gurugram while he continues his indefinite hunger strike linked to the alleged NEET examination paper leak.
The order came after Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, challenged an earlier decision that had declined permission for his transfer from the government-run hospital.
During the hearing, the Central government informed the court that it had no objection to Wangchuk being moved to Medanta Hospital, provided he remains under continuous medical supervision. The Centre also requested that he should not be discharged unless the treating doctors at the private hospital consider it medically appropriate.
The Division Bench directed that Wangchuk’s complete medical records be transferred along with him to ensure continuity of treatment. A detailed order was expected to be issued later in the day.
Wangchuk entered the 24th day of his hunger strike on Tuesday. His fast has coincided with ongoing protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, with demonstrators demanding greater accountability and action from the Union government.
Supporters gathered once again at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where protests continued, while calls for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were reiterated by protesting groups.
The developments come as the controversy surrounding the NEET examination continues to generate political debate and public attention across the country.
