Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has strongly rejected rumours about her health and accused people recently removed from the party of creating confusion among BSP workers. The development has added another chapter to the growing political dispute involving her nephew Akash Anand.
Addressing the media in Lucknow on September 13, Mayawati said she was appearing publicly to caution party workers and supporters against what she described as misleading information about her health. She said rumours had been circulating that she was seriously unwell, while asserting that she was healthy and continuing to remain actively involved in party affairs.
Mayawati Refers to Akash Anand’s Phone Call
Mayawati cited a phone call allegedly made by Akash Anand to BSP functionary Alok Kumar as an indication of how the rumours about her health were being discussed.
According to Mayawati, Akash called Kumar at around 10:04 pm on Saturday and asked about her health, specifically whether she was unwell. Kumar reportedly told him that Mayawati was fine and busy with her work.
Mayawati further claimed that Akash asked Kumar not to tell her about the conversation. She said the intention behind the call could have been either genuine or otherwise, but questioned the circumstances surrounding it.
Mayawati Accuses Akash of Being Influenced by Ashok Siddharth
The BSP chief also renewed her criticism of Akash Anand, alleging that he continues to be influenced by his father-in-law and former BSP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Siddharth.
Mayawati suggested that Akash was not making decisions independently and questioned his judgment in the context of the latest controversy. Her remarks come only days after she removed Akash from all party responsibilities and effectively ended his current political role within the BSP.
Akash Anand’s Removal Deepens BSP Family Dispute
The latest dispute follows a series of significant developments within the BSP. Mayawati recently announced that Akash Anand would be completely relieved of party responsibilities, following the political retirement announcement of Ashok Siddharth.
The BSP chief had earlier criticised what she described as the growing influence of personal and family interests over party responsibilities. She subsequently made it clear that neither Akash Anand nor his brother Ishan Anand would be given political positions in the BSP.
Mayawati has also indicated that her niece Deepika Anand could potentially assist her brother Anand Kumar in party-related responsibilities, subject to her ability and willingness to take on such work.
Mayawati Seeks to Reassure BSP Workers
By coming before the media, Mayawati sought to directly address speculation surrounding her health and reassure BSP workers that she remains active.
She urged party members not to be influenced by what she described as false or misleading propaganda. Her comments also underline the wider organisational changes taking place within the BSP as the party prepares for the political challenges ahead.
The controversy over Mayawati’s health has therefore become intertwined with the larger dispute over Akash Anand’s position, family influence and the future leadership structure of the BSP.
