A one-and-a-half-month-old baby reportedly went missing from the premises of Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi, prompting police to register a kidnapping case and launch an investigation. The incident allegedly occurred when the infant’s mother stepped away briefly to drink water, according to the newspaper report.
The mother had reportedly brought her infant son to the hospital for medical attention. During her visit, she met a woman wearing a burqa, who allegedly engaged her in conversation and offered to help. The woman reportedly accompanied the mother and child towards a pharmacy within the hospital premises.
According to the report, the mother later became occupied with purchasing medicines. During this period, she allegedly handed her baby to the woman. When she returned, both the woman and the infant were missing.
Mother Searches Hospital Premises for Missing Infant
The mother reportedly searched the hospital premises for her child but was unable to locate him. She subsequently informed her husband and approached the police for assistance.
The family told police that the infant had disappeared from the hospital premises under suspicious circumstances. Following the complaint, GTB Enclave police registered a case of kidnapping and initiated an investigation.
CCTV Footage Under Examination
Police are examining CCTV footage from the hospital premises and surrounding areas to establish the sequence of events and identify the woman suspected of taking the child. Investigators are also attempting to trace the movements of the suspect and gather further information about the incident.
The hospital administration has reportedly stated that it has no information indicating that the child was taken from a hospital ward or nursery. The incident is believed to have occurred in the hospital premises, according to the report.
Previous Child-Theft Incidents at GTB Hospital
The newspaper report also refers to two earlier incidents involving alleged child theft from GTB Hospital.
In one case, reported on May 31, 2026, a seven-month-old child was allegedly taken from the hospital premises. Police subsequently recovered the child within approximately 30 hours.
Another incident reportedly occurred in 2022, when a newborn was allegedly taken by a woman who introduced herself as the infant’s grandmother.
The latest incident has renewed concerns about the safety of infants and the need for vigilance in crowded public healthcare facilities. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited from the police.
