The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has launched the Garbhini Mitra Course for the 2026–27 academic session, introducing a structured training programme focused on Ayurveda-based maternal wellness, pregnancy education and community-level support.
The initiative, offered by AIIA, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Ayush, is designed to prepare trained personnel who can assist women during pregnancy and the postnatal period through health education, lifestyle guidance and appropriate wellness support.
Six-Month Training Programme
The six-month offline course will be conducted at the AIIA campus in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi. Classes will be held from Monday to Friday, between 3 PM and 5 PM, with a maximum intake of 20 students per batch.
The curriculum draws upon traditional Ayurvedic approaches including Garbhini Paricharya for antenatal care, Sutika Paricharya for postnatal care and Garbhadhana Vidhi for pre-conceptional care.
Participants will receive practical training in areas such as:
- Trimester-specific diet and nutrition guidance
- Pregnancy-related lifestyle practices
- Pregnancy-safe yoga
- Emotional support during labour
- Newborn massage
- Basic life-support protocols
- Infection prevention and control
- Sanitisation practices
- Biomedical waste management
- Workplace safety
Who Can Apply?
The course is open to candidates who have completed Senior Secondary (10+2) from a recognised board in India and are at least 18 years old.
Students awaiting their Class 12 results can also submit provisional applications, according to the course information released by AIIA.

Course to Complement, Not Replace, Medical Care
AIIA’s initiative is intended to complement established maternal healthcare services rather than replace qualified medical professionals.
Pregnant women still require routine antenatal consultations, appropriate diagnostic investigations and regular monitoring of parameters such as blood pressure and haemoglobin. Trained Garbhini Mitras can play a supportive role by providing health education, recognising potential warning signs and helping facilitate timely referral to doctors or healthcare facilities.
