Sonam Wangchuk Hospitalised: Safdarjung Hospital Says Signs of Dehydration Detected, Urges Immediate Medical Treatment

New Delhi: HL July 18, 2026

Safdarjung Hospital and Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) on Saturday issued a health bulletin stating that social activist Sonam Wangchuk is conscious and haemodynamically stable but is showing clinical signs of dehydration following prolonged fasting.

According to the hospital, Wangchuk’s pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation remain within normal limits. However, doctors have advised immediate medical intervention, including oral or intravenous fluids and electrolyte therapy, to prevent further health complications.

The bulletin said an independent specialist from AIIMS, New Delhi, examined Wangchuk and agreed with the treating team’s assessment. An AIIMS doctor has also joined the medical team and will continue to assist in monitoring and clinical management.

Hospital authorities stated that despite repeated counselling by doctors and the independent expert, Wangchuk has declined intravenous fluids, oral rehydration solution and prescribed medications. The bulletin further noted that his family has not yet provided consent for the recommended medical treatment.

Doctors said Wangchuk remains under close observation and that efforts are continuing to counsel both the patient and his family to accept the recommended treatment at the earliest to avoid preventable complications.

Safdarjung Hospital says Sonam Wangchuk is stable but showing signs of dehydration due to prolonged fasting. Doctors have recommended immediate fluid and electrolyte therapy, while an AIIMS expert has joined the medical team.
