New Delhi : HL September 7, 2026

The Ministry of Ayush has announced that the 11th Ayurveda Day 2026 will be celebrated on September 23 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow” (स्वस्थ भविष्य के लिए आयुर्वेद).

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Shri Prataprao Jadhav made the announcement while addressing a curtain-raiser press conference at the National Media Centre in New Delhi.

The 2026 campaign seeks to position Ayurveda not simply as a traditional system of medicine, but as a source of knowledge that can contribute to contemporary approaches to preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, wellness and holistic wellbeing.

From Tradition to Innovation

Addressing the gathering, Jadhav said that growing global interest in preventive healthcare and wellness provides an opportunity to connect India’s traditional knowledge with emerging healthcare requirements.

He stressed that Ayurveda Day should move beyond the celebration of India’s heritage and become a platform for translating traditional knowledge into approaches relevant to present and future health needs.

The initiative is also being aligned with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, with emphasis on a healthcare approach that looks beyond treating illness. Healthy habits, appropriate nutrition, daily routines, mental balance and harmony with nature are expected to form important components of this broader perspective.

Three Key Priorities for Ayurveda Day 2026

The nationwide campaign will focus on three major areas:

  1. Integrative Healthcare for Better Health Outcomes
The campaign will promote greater understanding of how different healthcare systems can contribute their respective expertise and strengths to improve health outcomes.
  2. Evidence, Research and Innovation in Ayurveda
Scientific research, evidence generation and innovation will remain central to strengthening Ayurveda and expanding its acceptance nationally and internationally.
  3. Ayurveda for Community Wellbeing and Sustainable Living
The campaign will highlight Ayurveda’s potential contribution to individual, family and community wellbeing while encouraging healthier and more sustainable lifestyles.

Media to Play a Major Role

Jadhav called upon the media to become an important partner in communicating accurate, evidence-based and easy-to-understand information about Ayurveda.

He noted that although Ayurveda has broad public acceptance, misconceptions and misinformation need to be addressed through credible communication. The campaign is expected to reach homes, schools, colleges, young people including Gen Z, and rural as well as urban communities.

The Minister said the 11th Ayurveda Day should evolve beyond a government programme into a people’s movement and a national health communication campaign.

The central message is to establish a progression from tradition to knowledge, knowledge to evidence, evidence to innovation, and innovation to public welfare.

Major Initiatives Planned

Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, outlined several programmes planned around Ayurveda Day 2026.

These include the National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2026, along with initiatives involving NIA Jaipur, safety dossiers on medicinal plants, Standard Treatment Guidelines for skin diseases, a report on the Ayush Services Sector and Ayush Vision 2030.

The programme will also feature exchanges of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and other activities aimed at strengthening research, education, healthcare integration and the wider Ayush ecosystem.

Nationwide Participation Invited

The Ministry of Ayush has invited Ayurveda practitioners, researchers, institutions, media organisations and citizens to participate actively in the nationwide campaign leading up to September 23.

With its emphasis on preventive health, research, innovation, community wellbeing and sustainable living, Ayurveda Day 2026 aims to create a stronger connection between India’s traditional health knowledge and the healthcare challenges of tomorrow.
