In a major move to modernise India’s traditional healthcare ecosystem, the Ministry of Ayush has entered into a strategic partnership with the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The collaboration aims to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve research, digital health services, medicinal plant studies, and innovation across the Ayush sector.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary & Chief Vigilance Officer, Ministry of Ayush, and Shri Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer, IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary, MeitY, in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush and IndiaAI.
The agreement is designed to combine India’s rich traditional medical knowledge with advanced AI technologies, creating a stronger foundation for evidence-based research and digital transformation. Officials believe the initiative will make the Ayush ecosystem more efficient, technology-enabled and globally competitive.
One of the key outcomes of the partnership is the integration of the Ministry of Ayush with the AIKosh platform. This will enable the sharing of eligible health research resources, including datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits and practical use cases. The move is expected to encourage collaboration among researchers, developers and healthcare professionals while supporting the responsible development of AI-powered healthcare solutions.
The partnership will also provide access to GPU-based high-performance computing infrastructure through the IndiaAI initiative at subsidised rates. This advanced computing support is expected to accelerate AI research, improve data analysis capabilities and help develop sophisticated digital healthcare applications for traditional medicine.
Officials said the collaboration will also focus on AI-enabled capacity building, innovation in medicinal plant research, digital knowledge management and improved drug administration systems. By integrating emerging technologies into Ayush, the government aims to strengthen scientific validation, improve healthcare delivery and create new opportunities for innovation in India’s traditional medicine sector.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader vision of combining ancient healthcare wisdom with modern digital technologies to build a future-ready, research-driven and globally recognised Ayush ecosystem.
Shri Naman Goyal, OSD, Ayush Grid, noted that under its Emerging Technologies component, Ayush Grid is developing AI-driven platforms to accelerate the digital transformation of the Ayush sector. He added that the proposed MoU would be a key milestone in advancing AI across the Ayush ecosystem.
