Dr Padma Gurmet, Director of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Wellness Visionary Award’ for Holistic Healing in recognition of his contribution to traditional medicine and holistic healthcare.
The award was presented by Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, during the 3rd International Conference on Wellness, held from October 30 to November 1, 2026, in Uttar Pradesh.
During the three-day conference, Dr Gurmet also delivered a technical lecture titled “Significance of Sowa-Rigpa for Health and Wellness in Himalayan Regions”. His presentation highlighted the role of the traditional Himalayan medical system in promoting holistic health and wellness, particularly among communities living in Himalayan regions.
The conference was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Satish Mahana and brought together healthcare professionals, academicians and experts from different parts of the country. A total of 42 distinguished healthcare professionals were recognised for their contributions to their respective fields.
The event also provided an international platform to showcase the principles, theories and traditional practices of Sowa-Rigpa. Participants expressed interest in understanding how this traditional system of medicine contributes to holistic healthcare.
Dr Gurmet’s recognition marks an important milestone in the wider promotion and recognition of Sowa-Rigpa, one of the traditional systems of medicine practised in the Himalayan region.
