Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for his memorable villainous roles in Ghajini, Lagaan, Sarfarosh, and the iconic television series Mahabharat, has passed away at the age of 74 after battling blood cancer. According to multiple reports, Rawat had been fighting the disease for several years before suffering a relapse that led to his death.
Rawat reportedly died in Mumbai on August 4, 2026, following complications from relapsed blood cancer. Medical reports indicated that his platelet count had fallen sharply, reflecting the seriousness of his condition in the final days.
According to his Personal Staff, Pradeep Rawat was diagnosed with stomach cancer nearly four years ago and successfully recovered after treatment. He remained in good health until April this year. However, in May, he began experiencing discomfort and rapid weight loss. Subsequent medical tests revealed that he had developed blood cancer.
In July, on the recommendation of a gastroenterologist, Rawat was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital, where he underwent treatment for nearly three weeks. He was later shifted to a cancer specialty hospital in Bhiwandi for further care. During treatment, his condition deteriorated significantly as his platelet count reportedly fell to around 6,000 per microliter, while his white blood cell count rose sharply, severely weakening his immune system. Despite intensive medical care, the veteran actor succumbed to complications from the illness.
A towering presence on screen, Pradeep Rawat built a career spanning more than four decades across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Marathi, and Nepali cinema. He first gained national recognition as Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat before becoming one of Indian cinema’s most recognizable antagonists.
Following the news of his demise, tributes poured in from across the film fraternity. Actors, filmmakers, and fans remembered Rawat for his commanding screen presence, disciplined professionalism, and ability to bring depth to every antagonist he portrayed. Several colleagues, including Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, paid heartfelt tributes to the veteran actor.
